Ute Holl studied Literature, History, and Philosophy in Freiburg im Breisgau and undertook research projects in Rome and Boston. She worked as a publishing editor, documentary filmmaker, as well as film and theater editor at NDR (Hamburg). In 2001, she completed her doctoral dissertation on the history of cinematic perception at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin[1] . She subsequently worked as a research assistant in the department of “History and Theory of Artificial Worlds” at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In 2007, she worked as a visiting associate professor at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. She joined the “Media Philosophy” program at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as a visiting professor in 2008, and was appointed to a position at the university in the same year. Ute Holl was awarded her postdoctoral lecturing qualification (habilitation) at the Humboldt-Universität in 2009. Following a position at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, she was appointed Professor of Media Aesthetics at the Department of Media Studies at the University of Basel in 2009.
